SRAM DUB Explained
SRAM DUB is a crank spindle standard for mountain bikes, introduced in 2018. In 2019 the road standards were added.
The crank spindle is designed around an axle diameter of 28.99mm and introduced to replace the two spindle types that SRAM offered in the past: GXP (24mm diameter with a stepdown to 22mm at the non-drive side) and BB30 (30mm diameter).
A Standard of One
SRAM claims that by reducing the diameter by 1mm, they had more room available to build sturdier seals, which makes for longer lasting bearings.
A fun detail is that the bottom bracket and crank system is actually built around a 30mm inner diameter bearing, with an outside diameter of 40mm. Not larger, but smaller than a stock BB30 setup.
