T47 Bottom Brackets

Ready to upgrade your T47 bottom bracket? T47 bottom brackets are now available on several bike manufacturers, including Trek, and if you're looking to enjoy the benefits of a ceramic T47 bottom bracket, Kogel Bearings has you covered.

T47 Bottom Bracket Standard Explained

The T47 standard was developed to offer the best of both worlds: a large bottom bracket opening, fit for 30mm spindles and the convenience of a threaded bottom bracket shell.

Building on the reliability and simplicity of threaded bottom brackets, a T47 BB uses a 46mm inner diameter shell threaded to M47x1.0mm.

T47 Bottom Bracket Types

Two bottom bracket shell widths exist within the frame standard:

  • 68mm width is narrow and requires the bearings to sit outside the frame for most cranksets
  • 86.5mm width requiring the bearings to sit inside the frame

All internal Kogel Bearings T47 ceramic bottom brackets can be installed with an Enduro TorqTite-compatible tool, while external T47 versions use a Park Tool BBT-79 or similar 12-notch external bearing installation tool with a 46mm outer diameter.

WHY Upgrade/Replace Your Bottom Bracket

Even new bikes with new high-end drivetrains can, and usually do, ship with bottom brackets using steel bearings.

Even if perfectly maintained, those steel bearings just won't roll as smoothly or efficiently as our ceramic steel bearings.

Kogel Ceramic Bearings are:

  • More symmetrical (i.e. round) and built to stricter tolerances than steel bearings
  • More efficient for power transfer than standard bearings
  • And, won't deform, flat-spot, crack or get pitted

Beyond the basics of keeping your bottom bracket clean and maintained, perhaps the most important step is ensure your bike's best performance is using a bottom bracket manufactured with high-quality ceramic bearings.
