About the BB386EVO Standard

BB386 EVO is a road bike bottom bracket standard introduced back in 2011. The BB standard is based on a frame shell width of 86.5mm and inner diameter is 46mm.

A mountain bike version 392EVO does exists, but sightings are more rare than the Loch Ness Monster, and bottom brackets are the same between both mountain bike and road versions.

BB386EVO Benefits

The inspiration behind the design was to oversize. BB386EVO is built around a wide bottom bracket shell and an opening fit for 30mm spindles. Because of the large bottom bracket diameter, it also fits Shimano, DUB and GXP spindles without issues. Why do you care?

Ever watched a BB shell twist side-to-side when hammering on a trainer? Yikes! The BB386EVO's oversized spindle and shell increases stiffness right where it’s needed most.

WHY Upgrade/Replace Your Bottom Bracket

Even new bikes with new high-end drivetrains can, and usually do, ship with bottom brackets using steel bearings.

Even if perfectly maintained, those steel bearings just won't roll as smoothly or efficiently as our ceramic steel bearings.

Kogel Ceramic Bearings are:

  • More symmetrical (i.e. round) and built to stricter tolerances than steel bearings
  • More efficient for power transfer than standard bearings
  • And, won't deform, flat-spot, crack or get pitted

Beyond the basics of keeping your bottom bracket clean and maintained, perhaps the most important step is ensure your bike's best performance is using a bottom bracket manufactured with high-quality ceramic bearings.
